From the Principal

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Dear Westgate Friends,

Our fall schedule at Westgate is certainly getting busier. I hope that you have been adequately informed about sports opportunities for the kids and that your children are opting to play on a Westgate team. We also have camp next weekend and we’ll soon be working on the Veteran’s Day program. Please be inviting vets you know to join us at Chapel of the Lake in Lake St. Louis at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 11.

Camp Mihaska

Our campers will take off next Friday for Camp Mihaska. Because a number of our kids are not able to attend, our camp budget is short about $500. If your family would be willing to make a donation to the camp account, it would be a great investment in our kids. They will have a great opportunity to learn about God’s creation and about showing His love to others in first person. If you, or someone you know, could make even a small donation to help us with this project, it would be so appreciated! We also have boxes of candy we are selling that, when sold, would bring in $52 for the camp fund. If your family could sell a box of candy to help out the camp fund, that would be a help as well.

Current Need!

Flu season is coming! To keep the desks and surfaces of our classrooms clean and germ free, we are asking each WCA family to donate a bottle of Lysol to their Elementary or Middle school classroom, or a bottle of Clorox to their ECC classroom.

Have a Target Card?

Target customers who have a “REDcard” can be earning money for Westgate! If you have a card and shop at Target, you can request that a percentage of all of your purchases be donated to Westgate. more info

RenWeb

The Parent version of RenWeb has a new look! Check out the new format; more accessible and better organized, making it easier to find the information that you need.

Benefit Parade and 5K

Tomorrow, September 10th, WCA Student Council is inviting all WCA parents and students to participate in a Parade, 5K or 1 mile walk to support the Wentzville Firefighter Community Outreach cancer event. Visit the website for more information and download the registration form to sign up for the race/walk.

YOUR PERMISSION NEEDED!

During the year, we have pictures of Westgate students on our website, in marketing materials, and publications. If you DO NOT want your child’s picture used in these ways, please email Phillis Hall or call 636-442-8000. We will then make sure your child’s picture isn’t made public – no matter how cute they are! If you are willing to have your child’s picture used, you do not need to contact Phillis or the office.

WCA Middle School

Family Referrals Pay off!

Most people who come to our school heard about Westgate from a currently enrolled family. No advertising does as much good as your words about our school. In the month of August we were able to grant $2400 to 8 families ($300 to each referring family) to decrease the amount of their family fundraising agreement. Speak up for your school! Talk to your friends about Westgate and encourage them to visit us – even allow their child to shadow. Enrollment is the key to growing our school –  both financially and in terms of the quality of WCA. When you talk to a new family about us and you think they might visit, please contact Kerrie Ottomeyer so that we know you sent them. If they visit and eventually sign up, we’ll credit your family fundraising agreement fund $300 after they have been enrolled with us for one month. It is that simple! You win, your friends win, and Westgate wins.

Camp News

Westgate Friday Notes

August 26th, 2011

Greetings to all our Westgate Family!

Welcome to the end of the first seven days of school!  We are officially .04% through the school year.  It seems most everyone is settling into a normal routine again and for the staff it already seems like last summer was a long time ago.  There are a number of people giving of their time, talent, and resources to make Westgate the best school it can possibly be.  Thank you so much for this!  Westgate really is a great place for kids to grow up, learn, and learn to love.  If you aren’t involved, just ask any of us here in the office.  God probably gave you some talents that would be a unique investment in our kids that only you can provide.

Health Forms Due

Student health forms for 2011-2012 are due back to the office as soon as possible. WCA is required by the state to have a current, signed copy of these forms on file. There is an absolute deadline of September 7th. Thank you for bringing these forms to the any office as quickly as possible!

New WCA Logos

All Westgate logos have been redesigned! The full list of available logos is on display at the Elementary office. To use a logo for any purpose, please fill out the logo usage permission form and return it to the Elementary office.

Spirit Wear Orders

Those items ordered by today will be available from the Elementary school office on Thursday, September 8th. Limited quantities and sizes are still available at the office for “cash and carry”. Girls fem-fit shirts and pants are not available at this time. Contact Lakesha Boyce or stop by the Elementary office to see what’s in stock!

Special Uniform Offer

From August 30th – September 6th add the new Westgate logo to uniform purchases for just a penny!

Visit the website for more information and download the registration form to sign up for the race/walk.

Matching Gifts in the Community

As you work to fulfill your fundraising responsibilities this year or know others intersted in financially supporting Westgate, it might be helpful to know that a number of local employers will match dollar for dollar (and in some cases more) your donation to the school. This increases the value of your contribution exponentially. For more information on how matching gifts work, and for a sample listing of participating employers, scroll to the bottom of the WCA Fundraising Opportunities page.

Back To School News For Westgate Families
Monday, June 27th, 2011

July 27, 2011

Dear Westgate Friends,

More news for you as the countdown to school blast off begins!

SPIRITWEAR

Be the first kid on your block to sport a New Westgate t-shirt!  Over the summer, a “branding” committee went to work and they have selected a set of Westgate logo’s and t-shirt/hoodie designs to keep us all Westgate-ish!  They did a great job and we will all be proud to wear these great looking new shirts that will bind us together as the Westgate family.

In the future, our new office assistant, Lakesha Boyce, will handle any spiritwear orders you would like to place.  Athletic teams and organizations that want to sport the Westgate name should come to the elementary office and place their order through Lakesha.  We feel it is very important to make our logo consistent so that anytime it is seen in the community, it will be instantly recognized.  Very soon we hope to have spiritwear for sale on a cash and carry basis from the elementary office.

Students who have the old spiritwear shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants are grandfathered in.  You can keep wearing them until they are worn out.  This new branding effort applies to all future purchases.  The middle school students (grades 6-8) who have PE uniforms may also wear the old ones until they are worn out; a new order form for PE clothes is coming out next week.  MS families will have exactly one week to order PE uniforms.  Full info will be sent with the order form via email.

TUITION DUE MONDAY

Monday is August 1 and tuition is due that day.  If you haven’t already paid, please do so on or before that day.

GET SCRIPT FOR UPCOMING TAX FREE WEEKEND

Tomorrow, Thursday, July 28, is your last day to stock up on script cards to be used on the tax free weekend.  If you want script that is not cash and carry, you need to place your order tomorrow in order to pick up your cards by next Thursday.  The tax free weekend is August 6 and 7.  The cash and carry cards we keep in inventory will be accessible all the time as usual.  You can now buy script at either the Early Childhood Center or the Elementary office.

SOCCER FANS AND PLAYERS

The All Saints Soccer Tournament is a great way to get your team ready for the season, and runs from August 21st through the 29th.  They host girls and boys teams for grades K, 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Entry deadline is August 14th.  Go to:  http://allsaints-soccerallsaints@aol.com for details.

MEET YOUR TEACHER DAY – AUGUST 15

From 3:00 to 7:00 on August 15, parents and students are invited to bring their new school supplies to school and meet their new teacher and store their supplies.  This is a come and go event.  Please note that lockers have been assigned at the Middle School this year.  Early arrival to pick a locker of your choice isn’t an option this year.

SUMMER PICNIC IF-Y!

An email will be sent out tomorrow announcing whether or not the summer Welcome Back picnic, scheduled for this coming Sunday afternoon, will be held.  If the temp, including heat index, is slated to be 90 or above, we will postpone the picnic.  Jen Bell and her committee did a great deal of work to make this a special event, so the event will be postponed, not cancelled.

STUDENT SUPPLY LISTS AND STUDENT PLANNERS

A number of parents have been calling asking for the supply lists for various grade levels.  Please sign in to Ren Web and go to Newsletters and Downloads.  You will find the supply list there for infants through 8th graders.  Many of our K-8 students have a “student planner” on their supply list.  Those will arrive in the elementary office next week and the cost is $4.  If you want to stop by early and pick one up, you can.  If you want to pick it up on MEET THE TEACHER DAY, that works just as well.  New parents who have not yet signed into Ren Web may call Phillis Hall in our elementary office and she will supply you with how to use Ren Web as well as the lists for your children’s grades.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call or contact us.  We want to make the transition from summer into the school year as seamless as possible.

Looking forward to a God blessed year!

Peg Barratt

Principal’s Message – April 18, 2011
Friday, April 8th, 2011

Dear Friends,

This week we celebrate the greatest event of all history – Jesus’ death and resurrection to life – which He promises to all those who follow Him.  May God bless your week with an extra measure of the awareness of His presence and may Easter be more meaningful to you and your family than ever before!  All three Westgate campuses will be closed this Friday – Good Friday – and K-8 classes are closed on Monday, April 25, although there will be childcare available at the EC building on that day.

Coming Up This Week:

Tuesday, April 19 – Future Kindergarten Parents Night – 6:30 – Elementary Campus.  If you have a child who will be joining us in kindergarten next year, please come to this meeting and learn how you can better prepare your little one for the big jump from pre-school to kindergarten.  We will also be signing children up for a mandatory test which will further guide you in what to work on this summer.

Wednesday, April 20 – Reading T-Shirt Day for participating students in grades K-8.

Thursday, April 21 – Easter Party Day at Early Childhood and Elementary.  Please plan activities and treats with your child’s teacher.  Please do not serve anything with nut oils even in the rooms where there are no students with nut allergies.  At our last party day, a student did have to be treated because of coming into contact with nuts or nut oils.  Please help us keep everyone’s child safe on these festive days!

Important Topics:

SPRING PICTURES – These are in and you should have received your child’s proofs in their folder.  To order, please read through the instructions on your proof packet.  If you choose not to order, please sign your child’s proof order form so that we know you had the chance to view them and return your proof order form to school by April 27, 2011.  For any proofs returned after April 27, please pick up a Late Order Envelope from the office and mail your order directly to Interstate Studios.

PRIDE PROWL – May 7, at Quail Ridge Park – Check-in will begin at 7:30am; Race starts at 8:30am; and 1 mile fun run/walk at 9:00am. Parents REALLY shouldn’t miss this opportunity to impact their Family Fundraising Agreement.  Several families are working to completely meet their commitment through this first major fundraiser of the year.  Click here to learn how this year is easier than ever to involve your friends and family from all over the world via email and other social media.

Westgate Waivers – Usage is picking up since the fundraising year began on April 1.  We are increasing our inventory to meet the needs of many parents who want to purchase waivers and take them home immediately.  Just stop by the Westgate elementary office.  Orders that are not in inventory must be turned in by Thursday by 9:00am and can be picked up the following Thursday.

Summer Soccer Camps Available – Summer Camp Registration is now open!  There are many camps to choose from this summer.  Click on individual camp for more details.  Camp Directors, prices, and locations all vary.  For more information on each camp contact the individual Camp Director at www.sccysa.org & select Camp Registration from the Menu.

Field Day is June 3 – Please note the lunch menu for this day has been updated on the Ren Web menu.

Middle School Parents – There will be a presentation at the beginning of our FUTURE SIXTH GRADERS NIGHT (on May 3 at the Middle School campus at 6:30) for all parents of students in fifth through eighth grade.  We will be presenting information about two programs, one for parents and one for students.  Only information about the programs will be offered on May 3.  If parents wish to sign up for the actual programs, they will have an opportunity to do so.  Here is how the organization describes these offers.

With over 28 years of experience, thriVe is St. Charles County’s leader in teen positive choice.  Parent Power, our flagship program for parents of teens, empowers parents to talk to their children, protect their children, and prepare their children for today’s challenging culture.  Our biblically-based session is led by skilled educators who have worked with thousands of teens, coaches, and parents about how to have “the big talk” with their kids when the time comes.

Additionally, thriVe offers an optional Best Choice Sexual Integrity Program; a fast paced, fun and interactive workshop, designed to help young people 12-18 understand that sex is more than a physical act and to equip them to make the best, healthiest, and most God-honoring choices.   Additionally, the program is hand-tailored to a specific group of kids, based on input from parents, teachers, and administrators.  Teachers and students alike find this powerful program enlightening, effective, and even life changing.

At our upcoming meeting, Parents of Future Sixth Graders Night on May 3, thriVe leadership will join us as we explore the possibility of bringing one or both programs to Westgate.   Parents of students in grades 5 through 8 are invited.

Principal’s Message – April 4, 2011
Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Dear Friends,

Here what’s happening at WCA this week:

  1. Monday (4/4) – Awards Night at Calvary Mid Rivers for all students and parents on Westgate basketball teams this year.  Contact Greg Gibson with questions.
  2. Monday – Monday through Friday (4/4 – 4/8)  is Dress Down Week.  If you weren’t at the Gala and would still like to purchase the right for your kids to dress down these five days, just contact Kerrie Ottomeyer.  The cost is the same as at the Gala – $20 for the week for one child; $35 for your whole family (no matter the number of children).
  3. Tuesday (4/5) – Family Math Night – 6:30-8:00 – Elementary Gym – This program is for all students who have participated in the Math and Reading program this year.
  4. Thursday (4/7) – 4:00 p.m. at the elementary campus – Field Day organizational meeting – if you are willing to help organize and plan this year’s Field Day, PLEASE come and attend this meeting and make this year’s special day the best ever.
  5. Friday (4/8) – Middle School Trivia Night – grades 5 through 8 invited – times are 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (please arrive for pick up promptly) at the elementary multi-purpose room; Cost is $7 to participate; kids should bring money for soda, raffles, etc.
  6. SAT Testing begins the following Monday (April 11) and runs through April 20.  Please be sure to have kids in attendance if at all possible during these days; feed them a good breakfast before coming to school; and make sure they get plenty of sleep.  Tests will be made up if possible but excessive absences during this time will lead to gaps in information when the score reports come in.

Special News:

  1. The IMPORTANT NEWS for all Westgate families with kids in K-8 is that the Family Fundraising Commitment began on April 1.  Now is the time for parents to start making a concerted effort to purchase WAIVERS – if you don’t use the program at all,  just try using it for gas and groceries.  Keep the gift cards wherever you keep your credit/debit card.  Purchase these every week, and you’ll be amazed how fast the dollars add up.  Also, one of the MAJOR ways you can knock out your fundraising commitment is to register for the PRIDE PROWL which is scheduled for May 7.  Click here for complete instructions on how to register.  This year, ALL registration will be done through a site called FirstGiving. You will notice that it will be very easy to use the power of the web in order to get your friends from all over the country to sponsor you and/or your child in the run.  Sunday School and small groups from church are a perfect group of people to ask to run or sponsor your team.  (Your team is your family and anyone else who signs up through your page – full instructions on the website.)  Check this out – every dollar you bring in through the PRIDE PROWL (INCLUDING the $25 Registration Fee per participant) counts directly toward your Family Fundraising Commitment.  In addition, if you solicit sponsors for the PRIDE PROWL, this also counts toward completion of your Commitment.  Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
  2. We are offering special nights for students entering three special grade levels – Kindergarten, Third Grade, and Sixth Grade.  These are special grade levels and we want parents to be prepared for the changes that are coming.  PLEASE come if you have a child entering these grade levels.  These meetings are for parents only – please don’t bring the children.  These meetings are on the following dates:
    1. Future Kindergartener’s Night – April 19 – 6:30 – Kindergarten Room
    2. Future Third Grader’s Night – April 12 – 6:30 – Second Grade Room
    3. Future Sixth Grader’s Night – May 3 – 6:30 – MS Gym
    4. Parent/Principal/Board Coffee – This year we’d like to offer the opportunity for direct communication between our parents and the leadership of the school.  Perhaps you have questions about school operation.  This is an opportunity for school leaders to listen, answer questions, and just be there for you.  This meeting will be April 14 at the Middle School gym.
    5. BOX TOPS – Believe it or not, Westgate parents have sent in $1604.70 in Box Tops this year.  At a value of 10 cents each, that is a lot of box tops our office staff and Holly Kea-House have handled, counted, mailed, etc.  They deserve a big hand for all their work.  This money goes to fund our Field Day in the spring for students in K-8.  Early Childhood students also get the benefit of box tops received on that campus.  Keep collecting them and sending them.  Field day is very important to our kids.
    6. As you think about what the kids are going to do this summer, check into our Summer Enrichment Camp.  Kids can enroll for a week, certain days of the week, or everyday.  Look at the schedule of activities for each week.  This is a great way to maintain skills during the summer months.  Also, Best Teacher Supply in O’Fallon has a book called SUMMER BRIDGE ACTIVITIES that will help your child use their skills and not lose them!
    7. Remember – another way to quickly work off that Family Fundraising Commitment is to refer a new family to Westgate.  Just call the elementary office and let Kathy or Kerrie know you are sending a new family to visit.  If they visit and enroll, we credit your fundraising account with $300 when they make their first tuition payment.
    8. Anyone need infant care?  We have one spot open for an infant child in our current Early Childhood building.  As we expand into the new center this summer, we will expand our capacity for infants from 4 to 8.  If there are families out there needing quality infant care – refer them and they will win with WCA childcare and you will win with a $300 Fundraising credit!

Upcoming events in April and May.  Note items in RED print.

  1. April 4-8 – This is the annual “Dress Down” week.  If parents didn’t purchase “Dress Down” days at the Gala you can still buy dress down days at the elementary office.  For the full week the cost is $20 per individual student and $35 for an entire family.
  2. April 5 – Family Math Night for students in K-8 in elementary multi-purpose room, starting at 6:30
  3. April 8 – Middle School Trivia Night – see details above
  4. April 12 – Future Third Grader’s Night – see details above
