Uniform Dress Requirements
Early Childhood Students
Ø There are no required uniforms for children in Cubs Two, Three, and Four. Children must be able to handle toileting by themselves in Cubs Three and Four. Please do not dress children in body suits or clothing items that have multiple snaps, buttons, and/or zippers unless your child is able to manipulate these types of closures.
Ø Children should wear shoes that will be safe during play. They should wear flat shoes that fit snugly on their feet. The following shoe types are inappropriate: sandals/flip flops, cowboy boots, jellies, or shoes with open toes or open heels.
Ø Children will go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 30 degrees. Please be sure your child has appropriate outerwear to make their outdoor play enjoyable.
Elementary and Middle School Students
Westgate Christian Academy has a uniform policy to accomplish several purposes. Not necessarily in order of importance they are:
1. Students should be dressed for study. By being more formally dressed, students are more apt to take themselves and their tasks more seriously. They should be well groomed. They should have clean bodies, clean hair, clean clothing, with a belt on and shirts tucked in if they are in second grade or older. Kindergarten and first graders should wear belts, but it is often difficult for them to keep their shirts tucked in. These guidelines create an appropriate environment for study.
2. Uniforms are intended to put all students on level footing when it comes to status of dress. This is intentional.
3. A uniform policy generally costs parents less to cloth their children for school, and there are fewer arguments as students get ready for school.
4. Uniforms are intended to insure that all students dress modestly.
5. On non-uniform days, students should be dressed in such a way that these purposes are met.
The following guidelines are intended to accomplish these purposes.
A. Elementary students may wear navy cardigans or sweater vests they purchase from Famously Yours.
B. Middle school students may wear hunter green cardigans, letter sweaters, or sweater vests from Famously Yours.
C. Westgate sweatshirts may be worn with slacks or skirts as long as a collared shirt is worn underneath with the collar showing.
D. Westgate hoodies may be worn with slacks or skirts.
E. Other sweatshirts, jackets and coats may not be worn inside the building.
F. There are no requirements for coats, jackets and other outerwear items worn outdoors for warmth.
G. Elementary and Middle School students MUST have a Westgate T-shirt to wear on Spiritwear days. The only alternative for wear on these special days is the school uniform.
H. It is understood that students who wear slacks, shorts, culottes, capri pants or skirts will have their shirttail tucked in at all times in second grade and older.
