Preschool Philosophy
We Believe:
- God is our Creator and we are made in His image for the purpose of loving and serving Him
- spiritual development is just as important, if not more so, than academic development
- children should be valued as individuals
- children need to feel safe, supported and happy at all times
- PLAYING and TALKING are the ways in which young children learn about themselves and the world around them
- all learning should be meaningful and fun
- children must be actively involved in learning
- children learn through hands-on experiences
- children learn through taking risks, making mistakes and celebrating success
- mistakes are simply jumping off points for learning
- what children CAN DO, rather than what children cannot do, are the starting points in their learning
- learning should cater to the needs and interests of individuals and not to the seasons, weather, date or time
- learning how to learn is key to success in the rapidly changing world our children will enter
- children develop their spiritual, social, emotional, physical and cognitive abilities at differing rates
- all aspects of a child’s development are equally important and interwoven
- children need time and space to produce work of quality and depth
- children need to develop a sense of responsibility for their own learning
- children who are encouraged to make their own choices become more confident and successful students
- children learn from everything that happens to them and do not naturally separate their learning into subjects
- parents are the first educators of children and play a vital role in the establishment of their child’s learning environment
