1st Grade – Coach Pitch
It’s a wrap!
On a Friday night in early August, the team got together one last time to have some fun at a Rivercity Rascals game and receive their trophies -- little did we know they would also get to stand on the dugout and lead the crowd in Take Me Out to the Ballgame! The event put nice finish to a fun and exciting season. We would like to thank everyone involved for all of their contributions they made to make this season possible. Thank you to Westgate and Conerstone Presbytarian for the use of their front lawn and facilities for all of our practices. Also, we would like to thank each of our sponsors for their generous support. This was a successful season and planning for next year has already begun. We can’t wait…but first it’s time for some soccer!
1st Grade boys finish season on a high note!
A second season is in the books for this great group of boys. The team finished with a 9-1-1 overall, and 9-0-1 in league -- a second season in a row of not losing a game in the St. Charles CYC league. The improvement in the boys skill level and overall knowledge of the game was obvious as the year went on and was testament to all of the hardwork/practice time that the boys and coaches put in throughout the season. As with each season, one of the biggest highlights is when their teacher stops by to catch a game and cheer them on!
Lions Continue Strong Start to 2011 Season
The first grade boys of Westgate Christian Academy followed up the season opening win with 2 more against Immaculate Conception -- Dardenne and Saint Joachim & Ann, respectively. The boys continue to work hard and have fun at practice each week while preparing for the upcoming ‘meat’ of the schedule. Following the hard earned victories, the Lions faced another great team in St. Joseph. The game was full of big hits by both teams, but WCA’s Dane Bishop led the way with 2 homeruns (making 3 on the season). After some great defensive plays, the contest appropriately ended in a 15-15 tie. Click here for the full 2011 schedule.
Westgate Christian too much for St. Elizabeth-St. Robert
The Lions earned a victory in their first game of the season on Saturday. St. Elizabeth-St. Robert (SESR) jumped out to a quick 4 run first inning, but the Lions scored the limit (6) in the bottom of the first and never looked back. In fact, they were able to score the run limit (6) in each of the game’s 3 innings, while holding SESR under the limit in each inning. Strong defense and aggressive hitting led the way for the Lions. When asked why he thought the team did so well on Saturday, team member Austin Ring said, “because we have good players and we work hard at practice.”
Next up for the Lions, is test against Immaculate Conception -- Dardenne. Click here for the full 2011 schedule.
2011 game schedule has been released.
All the hard work is about to pay off. Saturday, April 30th, will be the first game of the 1st Grade boys 2011 season.
