Westgate Reading Program
Westgate “Building a School of Readers” Reading and Math Incentive Program
Thanks to Target and Cardinals Care grant programs, we are able to provide a no-cost reading and math incentive program for Westgate students in grades kindergarten through eighth. Each year, beginning in September, students can earn a t-shirt and will add “a decal” each time they read a specified number of books or finish a grade-appropriate math problem sheet. There are also some special family nights planned that will allow the whole family to have fun with math (sponsored by Lindenwood University’s Math Methods class) and reading. There will be special days when the kids who participate in the program get to wear their reading t-shirts and wear blue jeans.
BUILDING A SCHOOL OF READERS PROGRAM UPDATE!
Many thanks to all of you for your support of this year’s “Doggone Good Readers! Reading and Math Program!” We hope the kids had a great time. Again, congratulations to the First Grade class for ‘highest percentage of participation.’ As a result, they earned a Class Pizza Party on May 19th. Awards to ‘top decal earners per classroom’ will be awarded during the school’s award assembly on June 6.
A big thanks to Mrs. Melanie Bishop for designing all of the fun take-home math sheets for the program!
Reading over the summer is a great way to hone your child’s literacy skills as well as earn decal(s) for next year’s program, too! St. Charles City-County Library District will start its Summer Reading program June 1 – July 31. Drop by to pick up a reading log and sign up! Happy Reading –
