Principal’s Message – March 18, 2011
Dear Westgate Friends,
Spring break looms large before us. I hope you have time next week to have some family R&R together. The elementary and middle school buildings will be closed from April 21 through 25. Our Early Childhood ladies will be there to provide childcare throughout the week.
We do not have to make up the snow day we missed on Monday, March 14. The last day of school will still be June 6.
April 1st is the beginning of the fundraising for school year 2011-2012. Te Pride Prowl and waivers will be available to all parents to start whittling down their commitment. Also note, any parent who calls our office and tells us they are referring a family to us; and the family tours and signs up; the Westgate referring family receives a $300 credit toward their fundraising commitment. This is the very best way to get rid of your fundraising commitment. Consider using Facebook and other social media to let your friends know about Westgate. PLEASE remember, be sure to let Kerrie Ottomeyer or Kathy Spinney know you are sending them before they visit.
There will not be a uniform fitting day at the end of the year when Grace from Famously Yours comes out and lets kids try on uniforms. We recommend you use Famously Yours – check them out online – because they are slightly cheaper and they do alterations for very little if your child is an in-between size. However, some parents buy waivers for Lands End and order their children’s uniforms from that source using the waivers. Sort of a double dip, if you will! Uniforms will not change next year from what is in effect now. See website for more details.
Coming up the week we return:
- Monday, March 28 – We need parent volunteers to help bubble in the kid’s names on the SAT score booklets and test sheets. Easy job. Get to know other parents. Contact Kathy Spinney at kspinney@westgateacademy.com if you are willing to help.
- Monday, March 28 – Pride Prowl organizational meeting at the elementary building at 4:00. All talented and gifted people welcome to help create the best Pride Prowl ever!
- Tuesday, March 29 – All those who helped with the Gala invited to attend a “wrap up” meeting at 4:00 at the elementary building. Purpose is to identify the things we did right and the things we can do better next year.
- Thursday, March 31 – Spring pictures with Interstate Studios. This is the opportunity for a full body shot, students can dress in attire that reflects their interests. As long as their outfit is modest, they can continue to wear it all day. Ballerinas should bring something to change into! They can bring a prop as well. Picture info will be sent home in Friday folders on March 18.
- Friday, April 1 – Third quarter report cards go home today (no joke!)
And beyond!
- April 4-8 – This is the annual “Dress Down” week. If parents didn’t purchase “Dress Down” days at the Gala you can still buy dress down days at the elementary office. For the full week the cost is $20 per individual student and $35 for an entire family.
